IPTV EPG guide in Canada: time zones, refresh and missing listings

Troubleshoot IPTV programme-guide times, missing listings and language settings without exposing playlist credentials.

What an EPG does and does not do

An electronic programme guide associates channels with schedule information. It is not the same as the live stream. A stream can play while the guide is empty, and a guide can display a programme whose stream is unavailable. Diagnose the two separately instead of assuming every missing listing is a playback failure.

The guide’s source, refresh interval and channel mapping can affect what appears. Ask your provider whether guide data is included and which player configuration it supports. A listing does not establish rights to view the programme or guarantee catch-up access.

Check Canadian time-zone settings

Canada spans several time zones. Confirm the device date, local time and time zone before applying a guide offset. If every programme is shifted by the same amount, a time configuration problem is worth checking. If only a few channels differ, report those examples rather than changing the whole guide blindly.

Daylight-saving rules and device settings can create seasonal confusion. Compare the listing with the broadcaster’s current schedule and note the date. Keep an offset at its original value until you establish the cause; compensating twice can create a second error.

Refresh without deleting your account

Use the player’s documented guide refresh function if available. Initial guide loading can take time, and a refresh interval may mean changes are not immediate. Check the developer’s help for your exact version rather than assuming a menu from another app exists.

Avoid removing your entire account as a first step. Before a reset, keep connection details securely and know how to restore them. Never paste an EPG or playlist address containing access credentials into a public validation website.

Language and accessibility are separate settings

A French programme title does not guarantee a French audio track. Likewise, an English guide description does not prove subtitles are unavailable. Check playback’s audio and subtitle menus separately. Ask about the exact accessibility feature you require rather than relying on a language badge.

Apple documents subtitle and audio controls for its own TV app; other players use different controls. Treat official platform instructions as a starting point, then verify the options in the application you actually use. Availability depends on the content and app, not just the television brand.

Report examples support can reproduce

Send two or three examples with the channel label, listed time, local time zone, date and app version. Explain whether the live stream works. This is more actionable than a screenshot of an empty guide without context.

During the CA$2 trial, check a guide entry at your usual viewing time and compare it with actual playback. If the guide is central to your household’s routine, resolve uncertainty before selecting an annual subscription.

Separate programme data from catch-up playback

A past programme visible in the guide is not necessarily available to replay. Ask whether catch-up is supported for that specific programme and how long it remains accessible. Do not buy a longer subscription assuming that every schedule entry is an on-demand recording or a permanent archive.
